about

A Foggy Day is a song composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. The tune was first recorded and introduced by Fred Astaire in the 1937 movie 'A Damsel in Distress' It was originally titled A Foggy Day (in London Town) referring to the 'pea-soup' fogs common during that period.

Over the years, this tune was recorded by other jazz greats including Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald; Billie Holiday; Red Garland; Charles Mingus; Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughn...among others as both a vocal and instrumental. Though we've recorded it on this CD as an instrumental, I've included the lyrics for your reference.

lyrics

(Spoken verse)
I was a stranger in the city
Out of town were the people I knew
I had that feeling of self-pity
What to do, what to do, what to do
The outlook was decidedly blue

But as I walked through the foggy streets alone
It turned out to be the luckiest day I've known

(Sung verse)
A foggy Day, in London Town
Had me low, had me down
I viewed the morning with much alarm
British Museum, had lost it's charm

How Long I wondered
Could this thing last
But the age of miracles, hadn't passed
For suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London Town
The sun was shinning everywhere

For suddenly, I saw you there
And through foggy London Town
The sun was shinning everywhere

Everywhere
Everywhere
Everywhere
